JPG to PNG Converter
Save your JPEG as PNG without adding another lossy compression step.
How to use JPG to PNG
- Choose JPG or JPEG files
Select up to 20 photos with a .jpg or .jpeg extension.
- Convert to PNG
Select Convert images. There is no quality slider because PNG uses lossless encoding.
- Save your results
Check the output dimensions and size, then download each PNG or a ZIP containing multiple results.
Choose JPEG images and convert. The browser decodes the photo, applies its orientation, and saves the decoded pixels using PNG compression.
Limits
PNG cannot restore detail already lost in a JPEG. The output can be much larger, and source metadata is not copied.
Files are processed sequentially. Keep this tab open and use smaller images if your phone runs low on memory. Camera orientation is requested from the native decoder; TIFF orientation is applied explicitly. Metadata is not copied.
What does converting JPEG to PNG do?
A JPG to PNG converter decodes your JPEG and saves those pixels in a PNG file. It is useful when an editor or upload field requires PNG, or when you want to avoid another JPEG compression step while working on an image.
The conversion cannot restore detail lost in earlier JPEG compression. An existing blurry or pixelated photo will not become sharper simply because its extension changes. Keep a high-quality original whenever it is available.
Why is a PNG often larger than a JPG?
JPEG is designed to compress photographs using a lossy representation. PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly, so a PNG copy of a detailed photo can be considerably larger. Check the displayed final size before uploading it to a form with a file limit.
JPEG input is opaque. This converter does not remove a background or create transparent areas. It requests the photo’s orientation from the native browser decoder, but does not copy EXIF information or other source metadata into the PNG.
| Property | JPG/JPEG input | PNG result |
|---|---|---|
| Encoding | Lossy JPEG | Lossless encoding of decoded pixels |
| Lost detail | Already absent | Cannot be recovered |
| Transparency | No alpha channel | Remains opaque |
| File size | Often compact for photos | Can be substantially larger |
Troubleshooting your conversion
- A .jpeg file works here just like a .jpg file; choose either extension.
- If a form rejects the PNG size, confirm it really requires PNG before switching to JPEG compression.
- Check the downloaded photo’s orientation on your device, especially for camera exports.
Image privacy and visit analytics
Your image bytes are read and converted on this device, without uploading. Google Analytics measures visits and tool activity and may use cookies. Our custom tool events contain the tool name and format, never filenames or image data. Choosing new files or leaving the page clears the current results.

JPG to PNG: frequently asked questions
Does PNG improve JPEG quality?
No. It preserves the decoded pixels without recovering lost detail.
Will my PNG become transparent?
No. A JPEG has no alpha channel, so its PNG copy stays opaque.
Why is the output larger?
PNG is lossless and often compresses photographs less efficiently than JPEG.
Is the photo orientation respected?
Native decoding requests EXIF orientation. Verify the preview dimensions and downloaded photo on your device.
